Many areas in Western Texas are home to lots of entertaining things to do. Day or night, some of the best views can be found here in Big Lake, TX. The number of places to go and things to see can be vast and overwhelming, so we've narrowed it down to our three favorite areas to experience. more 1. Reagan County Park This park can be found just off of E 12th Street on N Montana Avenue, one mile from the city center on the edge of town. This is one of the most popular destinations for locals in surrounding areas. The grounds span over half a mile with plenty of room for walking and biking trails. Some beloved attractions here are the original Stiles jailhouse, the original Sante Fe Depot, a replica of the Santa Rita #1, and a baseball field from the movie "The Rookie." There is also a swimming pool, plenty of flat green spaces for picnics, a community center, and even private shelters with electricity setups for campers. Relax here for a day and set up your tent at night. Sit by the campfire and witness the teeming wildlife that surrounds you. 2. Josh Mitchell Park Right in the heart of our town lies Josh Mitchell Park. This park was built for and named after a local man. Mitchell was a Reagan County deputy who was killed in the line of duty and this park serves as his memorial. It boasts beautiful, peaceful, well-cared-for grounds with manicured lawns. There's plenty of space for a picnic for the whole family. Your younger children can have fun on the playground in the middle of the park. You can find this park on N. Montana Avenue extending through 9th Street and 10th Street. The park itself is enclosed by a fence and the entryway has an arch with the park name on it. There is also a memorial plaque on a white pillar. 3. The Ghost Town of Texon The town of Texon is located about ten miles west of Big Lake. This is a great destination if you're looking for something more exploratory with a fascinating backstory. Ghost towns are always fun, but this one is special because of the nature reclaim that has occurred there. The now empty streets are roamed by wildlife such as deer, roadrunners, and rabbits. This town was formed in 1923 when oil was discovered on the land by Big Lake Oil Co. By 1930 all the residencies and businesses were built and the population boomed to over one thousand. The city thrived from then until around 1940 when the oil access dried up. By 1962 the town was forced to sell its buildings and evacuate. Today, you can still see the foundations of some of the buildings and the streets they once sat on. These are just a few of our favorite places to visit. 4 Benefits of Getting Car Financing at Your Local Chevy Dealer
If you are shopping for a new car, there are plenty of great reasons to consider getting car financing. You should know that where you get your financing from matters. These are just a few of the best reasons to get financing for your next car from your Chevy dealer. more 1. Afford a Better Car One of the biggest reasons to get financing for your next vehicle is so that you can afford a higher-quality vehicle. If you buy your car outright, you may only be able to afford a lower trim level than the one you'd actually like. But when you get financing, you'll only need to put down a portion of the car's total cost as your down payment. That means you'll be able to afford something of higher quality. Get the car you've been dreaming of when you get financing. 2. Build Your Credit Score If you have a low credit score, then financing your vehicle might be exactly what you need to build that score back up. Having a low credit score can affect your financial health greatly and make it hard for you to get things like loans and mortgages. But many dealers will offer financing for the vehicles even if you have a low credit score. And when you get financing and pay your monthly payments on time, this will help to boost your credit score and show lenders that you are someone they can trust. 3. No Collateral Necessary When you get loans for major purchases, many lenders will require that you provide collateral. This is to ensure that the lender has something to fall back on if you are unable to pay off the entirety of your loan. However, having to provide collateral can be stressful for you as the buyer. The good news is that car loans don't usually require collateral. The vehicle itself is generally considered to be security enough for the financer. If you're unable to make your payments, then your financer will just take the car back. 4. Low-Interest Rates When you take out a loan on a vehicle, you will have to pay interest on your loan. The amount of interest that you need to pay will vary based on several factors, including your credit score and the vehicle you are purchasing. The lenders themselves will also contribute to the amount of interest. Your dealership wants you to get your financing from them. That's why they will offer you the lowest and most competitive interest rates possible. If you want to make sure that you're keeping your monthly payments as low as you can, then get your financing from your dealership. Buying a new car is exciting. If you want to make sure that you're getting the car that you deserve, it's a good idea to consider financing. Are you ready to see what financing options we have available? Come talk to us today at Glasscock Chevrolet.

How to Tell When Your Chevy Needs an Alternator Repair
Your Chevy's alternator generates the electrical energy for all your car's devices. It also maintains your battery at full charge. Generally speaking, your alternator will last for around eight years before it needs to be replaced. When an alternator is wearing out, it will show signs that it's experiencing problems. These signs mean that it's time to bring your car to your Chevy dealer for an alternator repair. more Electrical Problems A good alternator can easily supply all of your car's electrical needs and charge the battery without any problem. As the alternator gets older, parts of it start to wear out. A weak alternator won't be able to supply all of your car's electrical needs, and your car's computer has to try and resolve this shortfall. The computer is programmed to prioritize certain systems, for example, the spark plugs, that will always receive power. The remaining available power is supplied to the remaining components according to demand. The more components that need power at the same time, the greater the chance electrical problems will start. Your windows, for example, may refuse to close, or the CD player will suddenly stop working. These glitches are caused by the need to shift power between different devices. As your alternator becomes weaker, these problems will increase. Burning Smells Smells of hot metal and burning insulation wafting from the engine are signs of trouble. The worn alternator will try to produce more power to satisfy the demand, and this means the stator in the alternator must spin faster. The stator is a collection of magnets bound in copper wire that generates an electrical field as it spins. The stator won't be able to supply the necessary power, but it will heat up producing the hot metal smell. Buring insulation smells awful and is also dangerous and toxic. Damaged wiring in the alternator or that connects the alternator to the various electrical components can heat up and start to burn. The wires heat up as the alternator tries to push electricity through the damaged wires, and damaging wiring won't conduct electricity and it burns instead. A Damaged Battery A damaged battery can damage a healthy alternator by overstraining it. The alternator will kick in when your engine starts, and begin charging your battery. The alternator will charge your battery at full power for about five minutes, and it with then switch to charging the battery at 10% of battery capacity. This is to prevent strain on the alternator and prevent overloading the battery. If your battery is damaged, it will register that it's at a lower charge than it is. This will cause the alternator to continue to charge the battery at full power. Since the battery level reading is wrong, the alternator will wear itself out trying to charge the battery. A damaged alternator can easily be repaired or replaced. Call us right away at Glassock Chevrolet, and our expert technicians will fix it.

Is It Time to Replace Your Chevy Car Air Filter?
If you start to notice that your car isn't running as smoothly as it used to or it's making a weird noise, you might need a new air filter. A clogged filter can cause all sorts of problems, including reduced fuel efficiency, poor performance, and even increased emissions. Check out these signs from your Chevy dealer that you might need a new car air filter. more 1. Less Horsepower When You Drive If you've been noticing that your car has less horsepower than usual, it might be because your engine air filter is clogged. A clogged-up air filter can restrict the amount of air that gets to the engine, which will decrease the amount of power it has. If you're struggling to reach high speeds or if your car periodically jolts, it might be time for a new air filter. 2. Your Engine Is Making a Weird Noise A dirty air filter can cause all sorts of weird noises, including rattling and knocking sounds. If you suddenly start hearing strange noises when your car runs, it might be due to a dirty engine air filter. 3. The Check Engine Light Is On If the check engine light is on, it means there's a problem with the engine, and you should take your car in for an inspection. There could be many reasons for a check engine light, but a dirty engine air filter is one of them. When your car's air filter is clogged, it can cause all sorts of issues, but the most common is an increase in emissions and poor gas mileage. When the filter is clogged or faulty, dirt and debris can accumulate, triggering the check engine light. 4. Your Gas Mileage Decreases If your gas mileage suddenly drops, it could be due to the filter. A dirty or clogged-up air filter reduces the amount of clean air that reaches the engine, causing it to work harder. Changing your filter on time will save you money. 5. You Smell Gasoline When the engine air filter becomes blocked, the excess fuel will burn off and cause a burning-gasoline smell. This is not only smelly but indicates that not enough air is entering the fuel injection system. If you notice that your vehicle has started to emit a gasoline scent when you start the car, it's probably due to an air filter that needs changing. 7. Your Air Filter Looks Dirty Air filters trap dirt, dust, and other debris so they can become clogged over time. An engine air filter may look dirty for many reasons, including normal aging, driving conditions, and the type of fuel used. If the engine air filter isn't replaced regularly, it will eventually become so clogged that it won't do its job properly. Replacing an old, clogged-up air filter with a new one is an inexpensive way to help improve gas mileage, get better performance, and reduce emissions. Schedule a service appointment at Glasscock Chevrolet to inspect your car and keep it running smoothly.
